What's wrong with whatsapp's new privacy policy ? Is Whatsapp safe for Privacy ?

The new Whatsapp privacy policy has created huge uncertainty among their users. 



Also the tension between the Indian Government and Whatsapp rises that the ministry of Electronics and Information technology has given 7 days ultimatum to Whatsapp ,  either withdraw their new privacy policy or make important changes. 

Let's try to understand why this new Whatsapp privacy policy can directly affect our life - 

First we try to understand what is privacy policy ? 

Privacy policy is a legal document that tells us about the uses of our personal data by the online companies and websites. 

Let's say , When we share our personal information like Name , email id , phone number , debit card , credit card , upi id etc  on ecommerce websites like Flipkart , Amazon etc , the privacy policy of these websites will tell us how they are going to handle our data. 

We sign up for many websites , and we simply press the agree button on their terms and conditions & privacy policy without reading it. But , if we don't agree , we can't signup. We don't have so much time to read these long and boring passages , we just press agree and move ahead. 

Many websites  collect these data more or less like Name , DOB , Age , Place of Birth , PAN card , Adhar Card , Bank account number , Credit Card , Debit card , IP address , GPS location , IMEI number etc . On accepting privacy policy , they have the complete access to handle our data. 

We often hear the news regarding data leak and data break. Are there any rules to protect our personal data ? The Answer is Yes !! 
There are many rules and regulations to protect our data. 
In India , in order to protect our data , there is Information Technology Act , 2000 and corresponding Information Technology rules 2011. Also , our fundamental right - right to privacy given in Article 21 ensures the security of our personal data. 



What if a person or organisation misuses the personal data ? 

As per Article 72A of the Indian Constitution ,  if a person or organisation misuses the personal data , he will be sentenced to 3 years jail or pay 5 lakh compensation or both. 

What is wrong with whatsapp new privacy policy ? 

All chats , video or audio calls on whatsapp business account are no more secured. Whatsapp new privacy policy states that these data can be shared with the Facebook. 

Why whatsapp wants to share data with Facebook ? 

Whatsapp claims that these data help in improving the ad preferences. 
But , we all know that many times Facebook faced difficulties due to the data leak in their company. Is it still okay to completely trust on Facebook ? Kindly comment your response. 



Moreover , Whatsapp also claims that all the private conversations would remain end-to-end encrypted and completely secured.
